What each level generates

Grade 1 numbers and number words — the exact skill behind each difficulty setting, straight from the generator.

  1. Level 1Trace every row
  2. Level 2Trace then copy
  3. Level 3Copy only

Grade levels follow the progression common to most English-language curricula — not one specific national curriculum. Every level shows exactly what it generates, so you can check the fit with your own program. See the full scope & sequence →

Frequently asked questions

▸What handwriting should a 6–7 year old be able to do?

By the end of Grade 1, most curricula expect correctly formed lowercase and uppercase letters, consistent sizing on the line, and finger-space gaps between words. Speed is not a goal yet — legibility and correct formation are.

▸When should my child stop tracing and start copying?

When traced words come out smooth and correctly started, move the slider to Trace then copy: the child traces the model, then writes it below. Once those copies stay legible for a week or two, try Copy only. Move back a level any time quality drops — the slider makes that a one-second change.

▸How many words should a Grade 1 handwriting sheet have?

5–8 words per session works well. Use the question-count stepper to size the sheet, and use Shuffle to get different words at the same settings tomorrow — daily short practice beats occasional long sheets.

▸Can I print the same worksheet for the whole class?

Yes. The web address stores your exact worksheet, so sharing the link gives every teacher or parent the identical sheet. Choose A4 or US Letter and the PDF reflows to the paper you pick.

▸My first grader still reverses letters — should I worry?

Occasional reversals in Grade 1 are developmentally normal and usually fade with practice. Turn on the easy-read font option, whose letter shapes are easier to tell apart, and practise the confusable pair on separate days. Persistent, frequent reversals beyond Grade 2 are worth mentioning to the teacher.
