Frequently asked questions

▸What words should a Grade 1 child be able to spell?

By the end of the year, most curricula expect the highest-frequency words (the, and, said, was) plus regularly spelled short-vowel words. The Core words setting sticks to that essential band.

▸How many spelling words per session for a 6-year-old?

Six to eight. Use the stepper to keep the list short — a small list practised daily beats a long Friday list, and read-trace-copy takes real effort at this age.

▸What is the read-trace-copy format?

It is what the Trace and Write page prints: each row shows the word to read aloud, a traceable version to write over, and blank space to copy it independently. Reading, tracing, then recalling is a well-established sequence for early spellers.

▸Can I put my child's name on the worksheet?

Yes — type it into the name field and it prints at the top of the sheet. The name is only used to render your PDF and never leaves your device.

▸Is this spelling generator really free?

Completely. No account, no sign-up, no watermark. Generate and print as many word lists as you like.
