What each level generates

Grade 2 ordering measurements — the exact skill behind each difficulty setting, straight from the generator.

  1. Level 1Three, smallest first
  2. Level 2Three, either direction
  3. Level 3Four in order

Grade levels follow the progression common to most English-language curricula — not one specific national curriculum. Every level shows exactly what it generates, so you can check the fit with your own program. See the full scope & sequence →

Each one generates a different kind of question, with its own three levels and answer key.

Frequently asked questions

▸What measurement skills should a Grade 2 child have?

Measuring with a ruler, scale or jug and reading it correctly; comparing two measurements given in the same unit; ordering three or four of them; and working out how much longer, heavier or fuller one is than another. These worksheets cover all four.

▸Do these worksheets convert between centimeters and meters?

No, and that is on purpose. Converting between units is a Year 4 objective in England and CCSS 4.MD.A.1 in the United States — about two years beyond this grade. Every measurement in a Grade 2 question here uses the same unit, so no conversion is ever needed. The Grade 3 sheets introduce it.

▸How do you teach a 7-year-old to compare measurements?

Put the two objects side by side first, then read the numbers. Once both measurements are written down in the same unit, comparing them is exactly the same as comparing any two numbers — which is why Comparing Measurements asks for <, > or = at its second level, the signs children already use in number work.

▸How many measurement questions should a Grade 2 sheet have?

Ten to twelve is plenty for one sitting. Use the question-count stepper to size the page, and print with the answer key so the sheet can be marked straight away while the thinking is still fresh.
