Frequently asked questions
▸What money skills are expected in Grade 2?
Reading and writing amounts in dollars and cents, adding two or three prices, and working out change from a note. These sheets keep every total under $10, and the Giving Change sheet works out the change from a $5 or $10 note.
▸How do you add money with dollars and cents?
Line up the decimal points, add the cents first, and carry a whole dollar whenever the cents pass one hundred. Adding in cents and converting back at the end works just as well and is easier to explain: 360 + 270 = 630, which is $6.30.
▸Are the answers always exact amounts?
Yes. Every price on these sheets is a whole number of cents in five-cent steps, so totals, differences and change are always exact amounts such as $4.85 or $7. There are no rounded or repeating answers anywhere.
▸Can I print the answer key separately?
Tick the answer key box and the answers are laid out on their own page, so you can keep them or hand them over for self-marking. Untick it and the worksheet prints with nothing to give the game away.
