Frequently asked questions
βΈWhat is expanded form in Grade 2?
Expanded form writes a number as the sum of what each digit is worth: 462 becomes 400 + 60 + 2. These worksheets ask for it in both directions, so students also turn 400 + 60 + 2 back into 462.
βΈWhich place value sheets does Grade 2 have?
Seven, each printed separately. Digits and Places asks how many hundreds, tens or ones are in a three-digit number, including numbers with a zero. Build a Number assembles a number from named place counts. Expanded Form works forwards and backwards. Number Words moves between 462 and four hundred sixty-two. Comparing Numbers, Ordering Numbers and More and Less finish the set. Each carries its own three levels, so the level control never switches skill.
βΈHow do you compare two three-digit numbers?
Line them up and work from the left. Compare hundreds first; if they match, compare tens; if those match too, compare ones. Stop at the first column where the digits differ β that column decides it.
βΈWhy do some questions use numbers containing a zero?
Because a zero is a placeholder, not a missing digit. Asking how many tens are in 405 checks that a child reads the columns rather than the digits in order, which is one of the most common Grade 2 misconceptions.
