What each level generates

Grade 2 units of time β€” the exact skill behind each difficulty setting, straight from the generator.

  1. Level 1Seconds, minutes and hours
  2. Level 2Hours, days and weeks
  3. Level 3The other way round

Grade levels follow the progression common to most English-language curricula β€” not one specific national curriculum. Every level shows exactly what it generates, so you can check the fit with your own program. See the full scope & sequence β†’

Frequently asked questions

β–ΈWhat time skills are taught in Grade 2?

Reading and writing times to the nearest five minutes, using quarter past and quarter to, and working out simple amounts of elapsed time. Later Times, Earlier Times and Two-Step Times carry the arithmetic; Time in Words, AM and PM, Elapsed Time in Minutes, Units of Time and Calendar and Dates fill in the rest.

β–ΈHow do you teach quarter past and quarter to?

Anchor both to the half hour a child already knows: quarter past is halfway to half past, and quarter to is halfway from half past to the next o'clock. The Quarter hours level of Later Times guarantees a quarter appears in every question so the two phrases get plenty of repetitions.

β–ΈWhy do the times only use five-minute steps?

Because that matches what most Grade 2 curricula expect, and because it keeps the counting honest β€” every answer can be reached by counting the minute hand in fives, with no awkward single minutes to distract from the method.

β–ΈWhat does the Two-Step Times sheet add?

It chains two waits onto a starting time instead of one, so the child has to land on an intermediate time and then keep going. Later Times already crosses an o'clock on its Steps that may pass the hour level; Two-Step Times is the step after that, and both lead into the elapsed-time work in Grade 3.

β–ΈCan I print the same worksheet again later?

Yes. The link in your address bar reproduces the identical questions and answer key, so you can reprint it for a re-test or send it to another parent and know they are getting the same sheet.
