What each level generates

Grade 4 ordering numbers — the exact skill behind each difficulty setting, straight from the generator.

  1. Level 1Smallest to largest
  2. Level 2Largest to smallest
  3. Level 3Mixed forms

Grade levels follow the progression common to most English-language curricula — not one specific national curriculum. Every level shows exactly what it generates, so you can check the fit with your own program. See the full scope & sequence →

Frequently asked questions

▸What place value skills does Grade 4 cover?

Grade 4 extends place value through ten thousands and hundred thousands: naming the value of any digit, writing large numbers in expanded form and in words, and comparing or ordering them. These sheets cover all of that, one skill per sheet.

▸Which place value sheets does Grade 4 have?

Seven, printed separately: Digits and Places, Value of a Digit, Expanded Form, Number Words, Comparing Numbers, Ordering Numbers and More and Less. All of them work in six-digit numbers, except the last level of Ordering Numbers, which drops to five so that three different notations still fit on one line. Each sheet carries three levels of its own.

▸How do you order large numbers?

Check they have the same number of digits, then compare from the left one column at a time. The first column where the digits differ decides the order, no matter what the remaining digits are.

▸Why do some ordering questions give all three numbers the same leading digit?

So the answer cannot be guessed from the first glance. When every number starts with the same digit, the order can only be settled by reading on to the next column and the one after that, which is the skill the sheet is meant to build.
