Frequently asked questions
βΈWhat rounding should a Grade 4 student be able to do?
Round three- and four-digit numbers to the nearest ten, hundred and thousand, and choose the right place when the question changes from line to line. The sub-skills follow that order β Round to the Nearest Ten, then Nearest Hundred, then Nearest Thousand, with Choose the Right Place mixing all three.
βΈHow do you round to the nearest thousand?
Look at the hundreds digit. If it is 5 or more, the thousands digit goes up by one; otherwise it stays. Everything to the right becomes zero, so 4618 rounds to 5000 and 4318 rounds to 4000.
βΈWhy do some answers change two digits at once?
Because rounding up can carry. Rounding 3962 to the nearest hundred pushes the 9 in the hundreds place past 9, so the whole number becomes 4000. These cases appear naturally on a mixed sheet and are worth checking carefully β they are the most common source of lost marks.
βΈCan I get a sheet that mixes the rounding places?
Yes β Choose the Right Place does exactly that, and its All three places at once level puts nearest ten, nearest hundred and nearest thousand questions on one page. Each question still names its target in words, so the sheet is challenging without being ambiguous.
βΈCan I reuse the same worksheet for a whole class?
Yes. The shareable link reproduces the identical questions and answer key for anyone who opens it, so you can set the same sheet across a class or use it as a fair re-test weeks later.
