Frequently asked questions

▸What spelling rules should a Grade 4 student know?

The main suffix conventions — drop the silent e, double the final consonant, change y to i — plus secure choices between common homophones like their/there and too/two.

▸How do I practise homophones with these worksheets?

Before your student traces a homophone, ask for a spoken sentence that proves which meaning it is. The read-trace-copy rows then anchor the spelling to that meaning rather than to guesswork.

▸Can I reuse the exact same list for a retest?

Yes — reopen the sheet's link and the identical words come back in the same order. Shuffle, by contrast, deliberately gives you a fresh selection at the same settings.

▸Isn't tracing too babyish for Grade 4?

The trace pass is quick at this age, but it still forces attention to every letter — exactly where suffix errors hide. On Trace and Write most students spend their effort on the independent copy and a cover-write-check round afterwards; on Use the Word in a Sentence the effort goes into the sentence.

▸We write 'centre' and 'honour' — will the sheet mark those wrong?

No. Both spellings are correct English and both are accepted. Two words in the Grade 4 Core band are spelled differently around the world — center and centre, honor and honour — and when one appears on your sheet the instruction line at the top prints the pair, so a parent or teacher marking by eye can see that either form counts. We do not pick one country's convention and mark everybody else's spelling as a mistake. The Unscramble sheet leaves these two words out, because a jumble hands the child a fixed set of letters and cannot honestly accept two different spellings; they still appear on the other four Grade 4 sheets.

▸Is anything saved about my child?

No. The optional name field prints on the worksheet and never leaves your device, and there are no accounts or stored lists — the link alone recreates the sheet.
