Frequently asked questions
βΈHow do you round a decimal to the nearest tenth?
Look at the hundredths digit. If it is 5 or more the tenths digit goes up by one, otherwise it stays, and every digit after it is dropped. So 8.247 rounds to 8.2 and 8.263 rounds to 8.3. Decimals to the Nearest Tenth drills exactly that.
βΈWhy is the answer written as 12.0 and not 12?
Because the question asked for the nearest tenth, and the trailing zero shows the tenths place was considered. It is the standard way to record a rounded decimal, and it prepares students for measurement and significant-figure work later on.
βΈWhich sheet mixes decimals and large numbers?
Choose the Right Place. Its third level mixes decimals and whole numbers on one sheet, and Round Large Numbers handles the five- and six-digit whole numbers on their own. The first two levels name each question's target; the third asks which place was used.
βΈCan Grade 5 students round without a calculator?
Yes β rounding is a place-value decision, not a calculation, so no calculator is needed on any of these sheets. The values are chosen so a student can read the digit that decides the answer straight from the page.
βΈHow do I print these worksheets with answers?
Tick the answer key box before printing and the answers appear on their own page, so the questions can be handed out on their own. Choose A4 or US Letter and the preview and PDF both reflow to match.
