Grade 8 · 3 pages · A4What each level generates
Grade 8 collecting like terms — the exact skill behind each difficulty setting, straight from the generator.
- Level 1One kind of term
- Level 2Two kinds of term
- Level 3Multiply out, then collect
Grade levels follow the progression common to most English-language curricula — not one specific national curriculum. Every level shows exactly what it generates, so you can check the fit with your own program. See the full scope & sequence →
More Grade 8 pre-algebra skills
Each one generates a different kind of question, with its own three levels and answer key.
- Variables on Both SidesCollect the x-terms on one side, the numbers on the other, then solve.
- Evaluating ExpressionsPut a number in place of the letter, then work the expression out.
- Two-Step EquationsSolve ax + b = c by undoing the two operations in the right order.
- Equations with BracketsClear the bracket with the distributive law, then solve.
- InequalitiesSolve an inequality and write the range of values that works.
- Substituting into FormulasPut the given quantities into a formula and work out the result.
Frequently asked questions
▸What pre-algebra should a Grade 8 student know?
By Grade 8, evaluating expressions and solving one- and two-step equations should be fluent, since the year moves on to linear equations, functions, and graphing. The Variables on Both Sides sheet moves past that foundation, across its own three levels.
▸How can I build equation-solving speed?
Practise little and often. Generate a fixed sheet, time it, and repeat every couple of weeks to watch the pace improve on the same problems. Keep sets short — eight to twelve — so students work carefully rather than racing into errors.
▸My eighth grader still makes basic mistakes — what should I do?
Step down a level to find where the error starts. Drop from the bracket level to numbers on both sides, then to x on both sides; if the basics are shaky, switch to the Grade 6 or 7 one- and two-step equation sheets, then work back up. Fixing the real gap is faster than repeating the level where the mistakes show up.
▸Does this cover equations with variables on both sides?
Yes — it is the Grade 8 headline skill and has a sheet to itself. Its three levels run from ax = bx + c, to ax + b = cx + d, up to bracketed equations like a(x + b) = cx + d. Choose the Grade 6 or 7 pages for earlier one- and two-step work.
▸Do I need an account to use this?
No. There are no accounts and nothing is stored — the worksheet is built entirely in your browser, and the link itself is the save file, reproducing the same sheet whenever you open it.
