Frequently asked questions
βΈWhat spelling words challenge a Grade 8 student?
The genuinely hard academic words β conscientious, entrepreneur, questionnaire β plus the ending traps like -ance versus -ence and double-letter words such as accommodate. The Grade 8 band targets the tier where sounding out fails and visual memory has to carry the word.
βΈIs trace-and-copy still worthwhile for a 13-year-old?
Yes, precisely because these words are hard to look at. The trace pass forces letter-by-letter attention on a word like reminiscence, and the independent copy plus a covered write-from-memory round afterwards does the real retention work.
βΈCan I reuse the exact same list for a retest?
Yes β reopen the sheet's link and the identical words come back in the same order, so a Friday retest matches Monday's practice exactly. Shuffle, by contrast, deliberately gives a fresh selection at the same difficulty for a parallel version.
βΈHow do I fit a longer list on one page?
Raise the word-count stepper and choose a smaller font size; the sheet reflows automatically on A4 or US Letter, so you can see exactly what fits before you print. There is no answer key page to allow for, so on Trace and Write the whole sheet is copy practice.
βΈDo you mark 'endeavour' and 'antagonise' as mistakes?
No β both are correct English and both are accepted. Some Grade 8 words are spelled one way in the United States and another across the UK, India, Australia and the Gulf: endeavor and endeavour, antagonize and antagonise. Where such a word lands on your sheet, the instruction line at the top prints both forms, so whoever marks it can see immediately that either one counts. We do not pick a country's convention and treat the rest of the world's as an error. The Unscramble sheet is the exception and leaves those words out: its letters are fixed, so it cannot offer a genuine choice between the two spellings. They still appear on the other four Grade 8 sheets.
βΈIs anything saved about my student?
No. The optional name field prints on the worksheet and never leaves your device, there are no accounts or stored lists, and the link alone recreates the sheet β free to print as many times as you like.
