What each level generates

Grade 3 comparing measurements — the exact skill behind each difficulty setting, straight from the generator.

  1. Level 1Which one is bigger or smaller?
  2. Level 2Write <, > or =
  3. Level 3Find the difference

Grade levels follow the progression common to most English-language curricula — not one specific national curriculum. Every level shows exactly what it generates, so you can check the fit with your own program. See the full scope & sequence →

Frequently asked questions

▸What metric units are taught in Grade 3?

Millimeters, centimeters and meters for length, grams and kilograms for mass, and milliliters and liters for capacity. These worksheets convert in one step between each pair, and the Comparing Measurements sheet compares two measurements written in different units.

▸How do you convert grams to kilograms?

There are 1000 grams in a kilogram, so divide by 1000 going to kilograms and multiply by 1000 going to grams. 4000 g is 4 kg, and 6 kg is 6000 g. The conversion sheets — Length Units, Mass, Capacity and Units of Time — drill the dividing direction on its own at their second level.

▸Why do children mix up multiplying and dividing in conversions?

Because the rule is memorised without a picture of size. Fixing it takes one question: will the answer be a bigger number or a smaller one? Smaller units always need a bigger number, which is what the first level of each conversion sheet reinforces on every line.

▸Can I make a worksheet with only length, or only mass?

The Compare, Order, Compound Measurements and Reading Scales sheets mix the unit families deliberately, so children must decide which relationship applies rather than switching to autopilot. If you want a single family, choose the Length, Mass, Capacity or Time sub-skill.
