Grade 5 · 2 pages · A4What each level generates
Grade 5 division facts — the exact skill behind each difficulty setting, straight from the generator.
- Level 1Divide by 2, 5 and 10
- Level 2Divide with a remainder
- Level 3Find the missing number
Grade levels follow the progression common to most English-language curricula — not one specific national curriculum. Every level shows exactly what it generates, so you can check the fit with your own program. See the full scope & sequence →
More Grade 5 mental maths skills
Each one generates a different kind of question, with its own three levels and answer key.
- Fractions of AmountsA half, a quarter or three fifths of an amount — and the amount you started with.
- Multiply in Your HeadBigger products with no written working — partition, use tens, find the missing factor.
- Multiply by 10 and 100Shift the digits: multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100 in a single step.
- Doubles and HalvesDouble a number, halve a number, then work backwards from the answer.
- Mixed ChainsTwo or three operations in a row, held in your head and worked left to right, bracket first where there is one.
Frequently asked questions
â–¸What mental maths topics come up in Grade 5?
Multiplying and dividing beyond the basic facts, doubling and halving two- and three-digit numbers, finding fractions of amounts such as 1/4 of 60 or 3/5 of 45, and mixed chains that use brackets and the order of operations. Six sheets cover those skills, each with its own three levels.
â–¸How do you find a fraction of a number in your head?
Divide by the denominator, then multiply by the numerator. For 3/5 of 45: 45 ÷ 5 = 9, then 9 × 3 = 27. Every amount on these sheets divides exactly, so the answer is always a whole number.
â–¸Why practise doubling and halving at Grade 5?
Because they unlock far more than they look like. Halving gives you a half, a quarter and 50% instantly, and doubling turns multiplying by 4 or 8 into two or three easy steps — both are the backbone of quick mental arithmetic later on.
â–¸What does the Mixed Chains sheet generate?
Two-operation chains at its middle level — 34 × 6 + 47, 468 ÷ 12 + 52 — with bracket chains below it, such as 754 − (318 + 207), where the bracket is worked first, and four numbers in a row above. Outside a bracket the multiplication or division always comes first, so no question is ambiguous, and every intermediate step stays a positive whole number.
