What each level generates

Grade 7 which step comes first — the exact skill behind each difficulty setting, straight from the generator.

  1. Level 1Two operations
  2. Level 2With brackets
  3. Level 3Brackets inside brackets

Grade levels follow the progression common to most English-language curricula — not one specific national curriculum. Every level shows exactly what it generates, so you can check the fit with your own program. See the full scope & sequence →

Frequently asked questions

▸What order of operations is expected in Grade 7?

Fast, accurate evaluation of multi-step, bracketed expressions that now include powers, because it underpins solving equations and substituting into formulas. Grade 7 builds on squares — evaluated before × ÷ and after brackets — and is about applying the whole order fluently rather than learning it for the first time.

▸Will the division always work out exactly?

Yes. Every problem is built so each division lands on a whole number, with no remainders, so a wrong answer signals a slip in the order or the arithmetic — not a division the student was never meant to attempt.

▸How is this different from the Grade 5 and 6 sheets?

The maths follows the same rule, but Grade 7 builds on powers — squares and cubes that must be evaluated after the brackets but before the multiplication and division — and leans on Level 3's multi-step expressions, expecting the speed and accuracy suited to pre-algebra rather than first exposure to the convention.

▸Can I make the problems easier to read?

Yes — switch on the easy-read font for cleaner numerals and more spacing, which helps students who lose their place in long bracketed lines. The Large font size also opens the expressions out, while Small fits more per page.

▸Can I get a fresh set with the same settings?

Press Shuffle. You get brand-new problems at the same grade, difficulty, and count, each with its own shareable link — handy for daily practice that never repeats.

▸Is there a Grade 8 order of operations or BODMAS worksheet?

Yes — filed under Integers rather than under this topic, because Grade 8 applies the same rule to signed numbers. Start with Order of Operations with Integers at /worksheets/grade-8/integers/order-of-operations/, then Mixed Operations and Powers of Integers at the same grade. The rule is identical — brackets, then powers, then × and ÷, then + and − — only the numbers change.
