Grade 5 Multiplication Worksheets β 2-Digit Γ 2-Digit PDF
Grade 5 multiplication means full fluency with the standard algorithm β including 2-digit Γ 2-digit products. This page opens on Column Multiplication, whose first level generates exactly those and whose levels above step up to 3-digit Γ 2-digit and 3-digit Γ 3-digit. Four more skills each have their own page: Equal Groups and Arrays, Multiplying by Tens and Hundreds, Missing Factor, and Three Factors, which arrives at Grade 5 only. A quick facts warm-up before new material still pays off, so drop to a lower grade for review whenever you need it.

Each one generates a different kind of question, with its own three levels and answer key.
- Column MultiplicationMultiply two multi-digit numbers by adding the partial products.
- Equal Groups and ArraysMultiplication in words: equal groups, rows and columns, and the number sentence.
- Multiplying by Tens and HundredsStretch a fact you already know: 6 Γ 4 tells you 6 Γ 40 and 60 Γ 40.
- Missing FactorThe product is given and one factor is blank β multiplication read backwards.
- Three FactorsMultiply three numbers in a row, choosing the friendly pair first.
What each level generates
Grade 5 column multiplication β the exact skill behind each difficulty setting, straight from the generator.
- Level 12-digit Γ 2-digit
- Level 23-digit Γ 2-digit
- Level 33-digit Γ 3-digit
Grade levels follow the progression common to most English-language curricula β not one specific national curriculum. Every level shows exactly what it generates, so you can check the fit with your own program. See the full scope & sequence β
What mastery looks like in Grade 5
By Grade 5, students are expected to multiply multi-digit whole numbers fluently with the standard algorithm. Accuracy under light time pressure β say, 10 two-digit products in 15 minutes with at most one slip β is a reasonable benchmark.
Generate a fixed sheet (the link keeps it identical), time it fortnightly, and compare like for like.
Common Grade 5 pitfalls
The classic 2-digit Γ 2-digit errors are forgetting the placeholder zero on the second partial product and misaligning columns. If those appear, have your student write both partial products on labelled lines for a week before returning to compact form.
Estimation first β "about how big should 47 Γ 23 be?" β catches most place-value slips before they are written down.
Frequently asked questions
βΈWhat multiplication should a Grade 5 student master?
Fluent multi-digit multiplication with the standard algorithm, including 2-digit Γ 2-digit and larger. The Column Multiplication levels here climb from 2-digit Γ 2-digit to 3-digit Γ 2-digit and 3-digit Γ 3-digit.
βΈHow many multi-digit problems make a good session?
8β12. Each one involves several steps, so a short accurate set beats a long careless one. Use the stepper to size the sheet to your session.
βΈCan I use these for timed tests?
Yes β the shareable link reproduces the identical sheet, so you can run the same timed test across a class or re-test the same student fairly weeks later.
βΈIs there working space for long multiplication?
Not a dedicated one. Problems print one per row at a fixed height β room for the answer, but not for two partial products and a carry line beneath it. Set the font size to Large for the tallest rows available, and plan for students to work the multiplication on squared paper or in a notebook, using the sheet as the question list.
βΈWhich font sizes print best for Grade 5?
Medium suits most students; Small fits more problems per page for confident workers, and Large plus the easy-read font helps students who find dense pages hard to track.
