Grade 7 Percentages Worksheets β Percent Problems PDF
By seventh grade, percentages become a problem-solving tool rather than a single calculation. Students learn to answer the reverse questions β what percent one amount is of another, and what whole a part came from β and to handle a percent increase or decrease. Seven sub-skills are offered at this grade and the page opens on Find the Percent, where the level control steps from Percents in steps of 5, to Any whole percent, to Answers with a half percent β every level a "what percent of 40 is 12?" question, and on the first level the part is bigger than the whole, so the answer passes 100%. Find the Whole recovers the whole from a part, or from an amount after a percent increase or decrease, and Percent Increase and Decrease works out a new price after a change.
Choose the difficulty to match the skill you are practising, set the number of questions, and add an answer key with one tick. Because the link reproduces the identical worksheet every time, the same set works for a lesson today and a fair re-test in a fortnight.

Each one generates a different kind of question, with its own three levels and answer key.
- Find the PercentWork out what percent one number is of another.
- Percent of a NumberWork out a percent of an amount, like 25% of 80.
- Find the WholeGiven a part and the percent it stands for, find the whole amount.
- Percent Increase and DecreaseApply a percent rise or fall and give the new amount.
- Find the Percent ChangeGiven an old price and a new one, find the percent change.
- Discount and TaxShop problems: what you save, what you pay, and tax on top.
- Simple InterestInterest on savings and loans, using interest = amount x rate x time.
What each level generates
Grade 7 find the percent β the exact skill behind each difficulty setting, straight from the generator.
- Level 1Percents in steps of 5
- Level 2Any whole percent
- Level 3Answers with a half percent
Grade levels follow the progression common to most English-language curricula β not one specific national curriculum. Every level shows exactly what it generates, so you can check the fit with your own program. See the full scope & sequence β
What Grade 7 percent problems demand
Most Grade 7 curricula move students from "find the part" to solving every version of the percent relationship: the part, the whole, and the rate. Finding what percent one number is of another β the Find the Percent sheet β is the pivot, because it forces students to identify which quantity is the whole before dividing. The percent is the part divided by the whole, then multiplied by 100, so 12 out of 40 is 12 Γ· 40 = 0.3 = 30%.
This is also the year percentages appear inside real contexts β tax, tip, commission, and simple interest. A student who can set up a clean proportion, part/whole = percent/100, can attack any of them. Watch for the classic mix-up of dividing the larger number by the smaller out of habit; anchoring on "what is the whole here?" prevents it.
Practising the reverse question
The "what percent" question feels harder because the answer is not sitting in the problem the way it is for "find 20% of 50". Build the link explicitly: if 20% of 50 is 10, then 10 out of 50 is 20% β the same three numbers, read in a different direction. Once that clicks, the Find the Whole sheet turns it around again to find the whole from a part, and Percent Increase and Decrease applies a change to a price.
Keep sets to 8β12 problems, since each one now involves a division and a decision. Tick the answer key so students can self-check, and use Shuffle to generate a fresh set at the same settings when a concept needs another pass without you rebuilding the sheet.
Frequently asked questions
βΈWhat percentage skills are taught in Grade 7?
Grade 7 extends percentages into full problem solving: finding what percent one number is of another, finding the whole from a part, and applying a percent increase or decrease to a price. Find the Percent targets the "what percent" skill, Find the Whole recovers the whole, and Percent Increase and Decrease handles percent change.
βΈHow do you find what percent one number is of another?
Divide the part by the whole, then multiply by 100. For 15 out of 60, that is 15 Γ· 60 = 0.25 = 25%. The Find the Percent sheet drills exactly that, with values chosen to give clean percentages. When the part is bigger than the whole the answer passes 100%: 60 out of 40 is 150%.
βΈWhat is the percent proportion?
It is the setup part over whole equals percent over 100. Cross-multiplying solves for whichever quantity is missing, which is why the same method works for every percent question a Grade 7 student meets.
βΈCan I mix "percent of a number" and "what percent" on one worksheet?
Each sheet holds a single kind of question so practice stays focused, but generating one of each takes seconds β switch the card, keep the same count, and print both. The answer key prints on its own page for each sheet.
βΈWhich paper size and font work best?
Choose A4 or US Letter in the controls and both the preview and PDF reflow to match. Medium font suits most students, while the easy-read font helps anyone who finds dense pages hard to track.
