Grade 6 Percentages Worksheets β Free Printable PDF
Sixth grade is where percentages arrive as a new way to describe a part of a whole β a rate out of 100 that links straight to the fractions and decimals students already know. Six sub-skills are offered at this grade and the page opens on Percent of a Number, where the level control steps from Benchmark percents, to Any whole percent, to Answers with a decimal β every level finding a percent of a number, such as 25% of 80, with values chosen so the arithmetic stays clean.
Set the difficulty, dial the question count up or down, and the preview updates as you go; tick the answer key box to print the answers on their own page. The link in your address bar reproduces the identical sheet whenever you need it again β for a re-test, a second child, or tomorrow's warm-up.

Each one generates a different kind of question, with its own three levels and answer key.
- Percent of a NumberWork out a percent of an amount, like 25% of 80.
- Percents and DecimalsChange a percent into a decimal, and a decimal back into a percent.
- Percents and FractionsChange a percent into a fraction in simplest form, and back again.
- Comparing Percents, Fractions and DecimalsDecide which is greater when the two amounts are written differently.
- Find the PercentWork out what percent one number is of another.
- Find the WholeGiven a part and the percent it stands for, find the whole amount.
What each level generates
Grade 6 percent of a number β the exact skill behind each difficulty setting, straight from the generator.
- Level 1Benchmark percents
- Level 2Any whole percent
- Level 3Answers with a decimal
Grade levels follow the progression common to most English-language curricula β not one specific national curriculum. Every level shows exactly what it generates, so you can check the fit with your own program. See the full scope & sequence β
What Grade 6 percentages should cover
Most Grade 6 curricula introduce percent as a rate per hundred and expect students to move fluently between a percent, its equivalent fraction, and its decimal β 40% = 40/100 = 2/5 = 0.4. The headline skill is finding a percent of a quantity, which is what the Percent of a Number sheet generates at all three of its levels, using friendly numbers so the focus stays on the concept rather than heavy long multiplication.
A realistic year-end benchmark: finding 30% of 50 or 75% of 40 without a calculator, and explaining that a percent is just a fraction with a denominator of 100. The most common gap is treating the % sign as decoration β a student who writes "20% of 60 = 20" has lost the "of 100" meaning, so keep tying every answer back to a fraction of the whole.
Building mental strategies before rules
The fastest route to confidence is the 10% anchor. Finding 10% of a number is a single move β divide by ten β and almost every other percent builds from it: 5% is half of 10%, 20% is double, 30% is three times, 1% is a tenth of 10%. Teach these before the multiply-by-a-decimal rule and mental percentages stop feeling like guesswork.
Keep sessions to 10β15 problems and tick the answer key box so a parent can mark instantly, or so a student can self-check one row at a time. When a whole Percent of a Number sheet comes back correct, that is the signal to move on to the Find the Percent sheet rather than piling on more of the same.
Frequently asked questions
βΈWhat are percentages in Grade 6?
Percent means "per hundred", so 45% is 45 out of every 100. Grade 6 focuses on seeing a percent as an equivalent fraction and decimal, and on finding a percent of a quantity β for example, 25% of 80 is 20.
βΈHow do you find a percent of a number without a calculator?
Find 10% first by dividing by ten, then build up: 30% is that answer tripled, 5% is half of it. The Percent of a Number sheet drills exactly that skill, with numbers chosen to keep the mental steps clean.
βΈDo the answers come out as whole numbers?
At the Grade 6 level the problems are built with friendly percentages and values, so most answers land on whole numbers or simple decimals β students meet the idea before wrestling with awkward long division.
βΈHow many percentage problems should a Grade 6 sheet have?
10β15 is a good session. Use the question-count stepper to size the sheet, and press Shuffle for a fresh set at the same difficulty the next day β practice never has to repeat.
βΈIs this worksheet generator free, and do I need an account?
It is completely free with no sign-up and no watermark. The worksheet is built in your browser, and the shareable link is the only save file you need β bookmark it to reprint the identical sheet.
